It’s been a bit humid lately in San Diego and it’s been showing in our hair. At Flirt Urban Salon, we’ve been getting a lot of clients asking us how they can manage their hair in humid weather. In rare cases, humidity can help make curls bouncier or add a little volume, but in most circumstances, it makes it difficult to get hair to cooperate. Here are some of our tips on how to manage hair in humid weather.

Shampoo Less Often

Shampooing your hair too often can strip it of its natural oils that help to control frizz in humidity. Try to wait a few days before each wash.

Dry Your Hair Gently

When you towel dry or brush your hair too roughly, you ruffle the hair shafts, which can cause extra frizz and even lead to split ends. Carefully blot your hair with a super soft towel. If you want to use a blow dryer, use a low-heat setting.

Choose the Right Humidity Products

There are some great hair products designed to fight frizz and puffiness. Those are the kinds of products you’ll want to use in humid weather. Bumble and bumble’s Curl Anti-Humidity Gel-Oil is a hybrid between a gel and an oil that helps to control curly hair in humid weather by adding moisture, shine, and hold. Another great product to help control hair in humidity is Bumble and bumble’s Does It All Hairspray. It works for straight or curly hair and provides a light hold and a brushable, touchable finish.

Master an Updo Hairstyle

If your hair starts to melt midday, it’s good to have a go-to updo so you can pull your back. It can be anything from a simple low ponytail to a messy top knot, to a timeless French twist. If you need a little inspiration on pretty ways to pull your hair back, check out this blog.

Get the Right Haircut

Did you know that long hair and straight cuts can help prevent hair puffiness in humid weather? That’s because long hair adds weight to pull down the hair instead of puffing it out.
